Product Review of Moticam X Wi-Fi

11/13/2013

Moticam offers a microscope camera that enables microscope to iPad via its own Wi-Fi.  Since I have a nice Leitz microscope and I’m dedicated to new gadgets, of course, I had to buy one.

The Moticam came with all I need:

That means: focus lens, two different eyepiece adapters,  C-Ring, USB cable, calibration slide, macro tube, dust cap and a CD.

The camera has no battery or on/off switch –  you have to plug it via USB to make it working.

First you have to connect the iPad with MC_WiFi_1146 and it will ask you for a password. Moticam made this like a kind of a riddle. So you can try to ask the User Manual on the CD, try to find it in internet, ask the support or try the different numbers on your contract or on the CD.

Or just enter: 12345678 and you can start!

You can enter the camera IP to Safari or use the app MotiConnect.

MotiConnect is real fun. You can record movies or just make pics and edit or do measurements. The results can be saved to the iPad and to iCloud – of course after you logged back to your network.

I had no problems to connect the camera to my Leitz C-mount adapter.

Nevertheless you have no nice microscope the camera is still a lot of fun. You can use it as macro camera with the supplied focusable lens and the macro tube.
